Modem and
Network Security
|
Unmonitored modem connections represent a significant security risk to any organization. Authorized corporate modems are often installed for remote access and device maintenance. Also, unauthorized modems are often installed by employees to dial their private ISP accounts and obtain unmonitored Internet access. Modem connections create unsecured phone line access points into corporate data networks, opening the door for hackers, malware, viruses, and other threats. It only takes one unmonitored modem connection to completely undermine all of an organization’s network security investments. Traditional data firewalls and PBX systems cannot see or stop modem calls and/or access points.
Many industry groups and regulatory agencies recommend and/or require aggressive measures to address corporate modem vulnerabilities. Some organizations attempt to mitigate some of the modem threat through war-dialing projects, conducted internally or through a 3rd party at significant cost. War-dialing expenses typically include long distance calling charges, consultant or staff labor costs, and software license fees. Sadly, for its substantial cost, war-dialing has proven to be a severely limited means of identifying rogue modems in the enterprise and provides no ability to alert/block/prevent modem threats in real-time.
The SecureLogix® ETM® Voice Firewall is the only solution that detects modem call types in real-time to alert and block these unmonitored access points into your critical networking resources. The Voice Firewall eliminates the need for regular and expensive war-dialing tools and projects. It detects all modem activity on your network to prevent restricted data network access and virus/malware infections with real-time firewall control over all authorized and unauthorized modem use.
