Challenge
Robocalls flooded the direct, public-facing phone lines for senior executives and their assistants at one of ConocoPhillips' locations. The volume of robocalls was so overwhelming, they filled the voicemail boxes of senior leadership and blocked the incoming flow of legitimate calls. The C-Suite was missing important calls due to a lack of call filtering and voice security.
Background
ConocoPhillips is one of the world's largest independent exploration & production (E&P) companies within the oil and gas industry. In 2002, Conoco Inc. and Phillips Petroleum Company, whose headquarters were in nearby Bartlesville, Oklahoma merged into ConocoPhillips. The company is now based in the Energy Corridor district of Houston, Texas.
ConocoPhillips operates in 16 countries and employees about 9,700 people. The E&P company is ranked 93rd on the Fortune 500 and 201st on the Forbes Global 2000.
Approach
ConocoPhillips now uses the SecureLogix® Call Defense System™ to protect access to its Cisco Systems voice infrastructure. They began using SecureLogix at their Bartlesville and Houston headquarter locations. Once senior leadership experienced the benefits from the voice firewall, voice intrusion prevention, and call analytic reporting capabilities, they decided to expand the SecureLogix solution to company locations across the U.S., in South America, and Canada.
Result
In an average month, ConocoPhillips had 153,000 incoming calls. SecureLogix successfully identified and blocked about 10% of that traffic as fraudulent calls. Given the immediate impact on operations, ConocoPhillips leadership decided to deploy SecureLogix even at their production facilities.
