Challenge
The law firm of DLA Piper was flooded by harassing calls related to a high-profile case they were handling at that time. The activists began a caller campaign against executives and other employees at DLA Piper. These robocalls interrupted business operations and impacted the response time for legitimate client calls, resulting in a telephony denial of services impact.
Background
DLA Piper is a multinational law firm with offices in more than 40 countries throughout the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. In 2005 DLA Piper became one of the largest business law firms in the world through a merger. With over 6,000 employees, the firm ranks as the fourth largest law firm by revenue in the world.
DLA Piper's clients range from multinational, Global 1000 and Fortune 500 enterprises to emerging companies developing industry-leading technologies. They include more than half of the Fortune 250 and nearly half of the FTSE 350 or their subsidiaries. They also advise governments and public sector agencies.
Approach
Once deployed, SecureLogix® solutions stopped the high-volume of spoofed calls attacking the firm's voice system. The integrated voice network security platform includes a stack of security applications including a voice firewall, voice intrusion prevention (IPS), and call analytics and reporting.
SecureLogix identified the phone numbers associated with the attack and blocked them. The responsible group changed spoofed numbers but SecureLogix was able to detect the new pattern of harassing calls and quickly stopped those spoofed numbers as well.
Result
The activists stopped their harassment campaign once they realized their calls were being blocked. SecureLogix continues to protect the law firm's voice network against emerging threats with constantly updated threat profiles and call security data.
